Project Category: Streaming Television, Travel Doc
About: Chasing Flavor is a hosted travel series following celebrity chef Carla Hall's journey as she investigates the origins of well-known dishes.
Position: Post Story Producer
I was brought onto this project as a post story producer, and assigned one episode to own while also assisting on other episodes as necessary. My first priority was historical accuracy, and I worked with our AP/Researcher to ensure the episode was conveying factual information. From there, I story cut the episode in Avid and wrote the narration. This show heavily relies on the host's narration, so I focused on keeping the lines fun, bubbly, and clever to reflect Carla's "fun aunt" persona. I also sourced archival photos and footage to supplement the history presented in the episode.
Production Secret: Scratch sells
Because I'm also a narrator, I offered my voice for scratch VO as we worked through finalizing the episodes and narration scripts. While editors sometimes have to sub in their own voices in a pinch, having my mic and vocal training available whenever we needed to insert a rewrite helped the show executives to settle into the fine cuts without being taken out of the story. The EP enjoyed my performance of the lines so much that she played them for Carla to emulate when they did the final recording. I enjoyed the practice, and was happy to help the team get their concepts across.
