Breaking the Record with GXE

Project Category: Promotional / Doc Short
About: The Genovation Corvette is the world’s first all-electric Corvette. This particular shoot was to follow the Genovation team as they raced to break the world record and claim the title of the fastest street-legal electric vehicle.
Position: Additional Camera
This shoot was demanding both environmentally and strategically - we had the Florida heat on the tarmac, extremely loud motors in all directions, and critical safety considerations all around. With a fighter jet, a corvette, and a helicopter all focused on the same NASA flight line, which is now a converted car testing track, there was little room for error. The team even had to pass a federal clearance check just to be on the project.  As additional camera I focused on b-roll shots and behind the scenes footage; which you can see in the final video on this page.
Production Secret: No coms
Because we filmed at NASA we were not permitted to bring production radios. When filming in a small location, that’s usually not a problem. On this shoot, though, our team was stretched out across a 3-mile runway. Coordination was more than a quick go-for on the radio, and we had to remain hyper aware of everyone’s position and the status of the test in order to never miss a moment or ruin a shot.
